The Morrigan is a powerful figure from Irish mythology, often associated with war, fate and death. She's one of the Tuatha De Danann, a race of supernatural beings in Irish lore. The name "Morrigan" can be translated as "great queen" or "phantom queen".
Triple Goddess: The Morrigan is sometimes portrayed as a triad of sisters - Badb, Macha and Nemain - each representing a different aspects of war and sovereignty.
Shapeshifter: She can change forms at will, often appearing as a crow or raven or the battlefield, foretelling death.
Prophetess of Doom: She frequently foretells the outcomes of battles and the deaths of warriors. One of her most well-known appearances is in the Tain Bo Cuailnge, where she interacts with the hero Cu Chulainn.
While most known for her connection to warfare and death, the Morrigan is also associated with fertility, land and sovereignty, showing her dual nature of destruction and creation.
Her symbolism is rich and complex - she embodies the chaos and power of war, the mystery of death, and the deep connection between the land and its people.
